NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

As a school community, we recognized the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Friday, September 27th. Our weekly prayers included information about the Calls to Action from Canada's Truth & Reconciliation Commission.

In 2008, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed. Their job was to listen to stories about residential schools and write down important things we can do as Canadians to learn from our mistakes. These are the TRC's 94 Calls to Action. The 6 Calls to Action below are some actions we can help students learn.

As a school community, we gathered in a spirit of prayer and reflection around the topic of truth and reconciliation to understand more about the impact of residential schools. Then, the students returned to their classes for a discussion about what students should feel when at school. Students wrote words on an orange feather that were important to them, creating a visual around the theme of "At School, ALL children should feel...." The words are now up in the main hallway as a visual of remembrance for our students to reflect on.

We always remember the children and that every child matters.
